This work investigates the relationship between space and furniture in the de- sign of a contemporary and modern interior, with the intention to create a complete environment scaling from overall space to furniture and lighting. Designing furniture and furnishing (such as lighting) in accordance with the functions, needs and desires of space is the priority of the thesis. The rela- tion between space & furniture will examined with several examples. Many leading architects are known for their work in furniture design, as well as in architecture and they have realized the idea of the ‘complete environment’. Some of them and the development process of modern furniture design will be studied in the thesis. Designers and architects have developed their design language and body of work in relation to their design philosophies, intenti- ons, and particular design conditions. Understanding the design philosophies, ideas, intentions, and ‘self-education’ processes of leading designers and ar- chitects is important for learning past and current developments on methods, materials, and realized work in furniture design. With the industrial revolution, there have been significant developments in furniture design, including new movements, methods, techniques and materials. Development and progress continue today as well. The thesis will present a survey of some significant de- velopments in materials, methods and techniques. The proposal- informed by the research and case studies- creates a complete environment considering the space&furniture&lighting relation which serves as a ‘book club’.

Abstract
The proposal- informed by the research and case studies- creates a complete environment considering the space&furniture&lighting relation which serves as a ‘book club’.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
