The ever-increasing use of airspace for the transport of people and goods, exposes routes to the crossing of areas of the planet affected by volcanic phenomena. From this situation arises the need to monitor and profile the dispersion of volcanic ash in the atmosphere in order to assess the necessary countermeasures and safeguard flight safety. In this thesis, a radar simulator written in Matlab environment at the Politecnico di Milano is presented, whose main objective is to recreate the sequence of IQ signals received by an X-band radar in order to to monitor a volcanic ash dispersion. From this sequence the code estimates the received power, the doppler spectrum, the reflectivity radar Z and physical ash parameters such as concentration, population and mean diameter. In addition, the simulator provides an estimate of the average speed, derived from the Doppler and validated by a Pulse Pair Processing code, developed as part of this thesis work.

Abstract
In addition, the simulator provides an estimate of the average speed, derived from the Doppler and validated by a Pulse Pair Processing code, developed as part of this thesis work.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
