This thesis work analyzes and explores the theme of sustainability along the supply chain of the construction sector. The first aim of the analysis carried out is the definition of a complete overview of the sustainability practices adopted in the construction sector projects and of the relationships between them. In particular, a classification is made between sustainability practices that are consolidated in the sector and innovative sustainability practices. Secondly, the aim is to analyze the impacts of contingent factors, drivers and barriers on transitions towards an innovative sustainable approach in order to investigate whether there are common characteristics between construction projects that lead them to adopt similar sustainability approaches. The research was carried out using the case study methodology on a sample consisting of ten projects. For each project, the information was collected through semi-structured interviews conducted with skilled managers of both the construction company and the design company in order to obtain an overall context of the design, procurement and realization processes. The results obtained from the analysis of the cases show that projects present different level of adoption of sustainability practices, leading to the identification of two groups of projects. Two contingent factors (i.e. level of BIM adoption and level of control of the supply chain) helped in identifying six innovative sustainability approaches in which the two groups of projects can be distinguished. These six clusters are characterized by different drivers and barriers that have led or hindered their approaches towards sustainability. The research enriches sustainability studies in the Italian construction sector projects, in line with the growing public interest in the topic. Even if the sample of analysis is sufficiently big, it would be appropriate to validate the results with a larger sample and including also the point of view of the supply companies in order to have a complete context of all the supply chain levels.

Abstract
Even if the sample of analysis is sufficiently big, it would be appropriate to validate the results with a larger sample and including also the point of view of the supply companies in order to have a complete context of all the supply chain levels.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
