Generalstab. War museum - spa hotel

In choosing the theme of the thesis, we decided to identify an area that offered topics close to us and linked to our personal experiences. Our thesis therefore is born from the need to bring to attention a part of the historical center of Belgrade now abandoned and left to itself through the redevelopment of a building that is no longer usable and placed in a strategic point for the development of cities. The Generalstab is an abandoned building that still has great historical value, a scar in the historical context of the city center. One of the last buildings that has remained unchanged since the war in 1999 and which still bears witness to its signs. Our project aims to make an urban renewal of the entire area with the creation of a war museum and a SPA hotel. An opportunity for the city to be able to tell its own story and explain the events that took place during that period. The two buildings are treated differently, one visible and one hidden, but both communicate the same thing: the importance of history and the importance of the visitor to wonder about what happened.

Nello scegliere il tema della tesi abbiamo deciso di individuare un ambito che offrisse tematiche a noi vicine e che si collegassero alle nostre esperienze personali. La nostra tesi nasce quindi dalla necessità di portare all’attenzione una parte del centro storico di Belgrado ormai abbandonato e lasciata a se stesso attraverso la riqualificazione di un edificio ormai inagibile e posto in un punto strategico per lo sviluppo delle città. Il Generalstab è un edificio abbandonato che comunque ha un grande valore storico, una cicatrice nel contesto storico del centro della città. Uno degli ultimi edifici che è rimasto inalterato dalla guerra del 1999 e che ne testimonia ancora i segni. Il nostro progetto si pone come obiettivo il rinnovamento urbano dell’intera area con la realizzazione di un museo sulla guerra e uno SPA hotel. Un’occasione per la città di poter raccontare la propria storia e gli avvenimenti che accaddero durante quel periodo. I due edifici vengono trattati in modo diverso, uno visibile e uno nascosto ma entrambi comunicano la stessa cosa: l’importanza della storia e l’importanza del visitatore di interrogarsi su ciò che accadde.
