The main purpose of the following thesis is to show how the issues relating to the inclusion can be translate into ideas and useful opportunities for the planning of school buildings. It has been placed great attention on the possible use of this ideas especially on the renovation of Italian school structures built before the second half of the 900’. The reason that pushed me to investigate this topic is the assumption in which the promotion of school environment, able to sustain and encourage the interactions between subjects, can give positive evidence in the inclusion processes. The thesis has been prepared thanks to careful readings about texts regarding the topic of inclusion and about the new school environments born following the evolution of learning methods. The text is written in six chapters: - the first chapter talks about the key steps and personalities that have contributed on the birth of a new school ideology based on the inclusion; - the second chapter is focused on the understanding of the real meaning of the term “inclusion”, on the subjects involved and how this topic has been faced by the Italian territory; - the third chapter collects some project points coming from both Italian and foreign researches putting particular attention on the change of the role that the school system has towards the community and the territory; - in the fourth chapter, we try to explain how the will of opening a dialogue between the architecture and the diversities has brought the creation of theorical and architectonical instruments that helped the concept of the inclusion; - the fifth chapter, dedicated to the case studies, has the aim of establish how the school environment is changing; - lastly, in the sixth chapter is proposed the preparation of a meta-project for the public school “Luigi Cadorna”, located in via Carlo Dolci 5, Milano. The meta-project has the purpose of showing how even a school with a firm structurelike the one took in examination, can welcome inside areas that can stimulate the interaction and the inclusion between the subjects.
