An affective impulse for the places traversed by history, for the slow walk and for the growing awareness of an almost forgotten legacy, today puts to the people of Arona an issue never faced by the municipal administrations in its entirety and therefore still lacking formal solutions. How is it possible to dissipate resources such as: the Sacro Monte, the Fogliotti quarry, the Rocca and the historic center in its entirety? The project idea gathers together a set of suggestions aimed at reawakening a civic awareness of what we are losing; the desire to return to walking slowly in a historical center freed from cars, rediscover the ruins of the Rocca and cross nature and landscape up to the site of the spirit, the Sacred Mount. The scope of the new park is actually formed by three large distinct thematic areas, in which the historical signs of the routes and the functional link of the access structure are linked by different origins and ways of use over time: the Rocca Borromea, the former quarry park and the Sacro Monte di San Carlo. The hypothesis of a park encloses them within a single area protected from vehicular traffic. The objective is to create a system of “Places of San Carlo” that can be traveled on foot or by bicycle, a large space for leisure time surrounded by nature, protected by the city. The redevelopment of the slope, with the securing of the walls, represents the occasion to realize a new “margin” of the city. The area of monumental vestiges will require a series of functional spaces for visiting the museum, an amphitheater in the area of the arms camp, areas suitable for hosting outdoor exhibitions, resting places. The intervention wants to be an “oasis of nature” in nature with a view to creating a piece of renewed Landscape, where the ecological-environmental quality is combined with the function of the park; this area could be object of interest for botanical studies aimed in particular to search among the possible forms of coexistence, among plants coming from different habitats, the most virtuous ones, that is those that do not alter the functioning of ecological systems to the detriment of biodiversity. Inside it will be possible to foresee compatible activities: in particular the natural amphitheater of the quarry has the vocation of hosting concerts and cultural events within the framework of the new park. The park will follow the principle of philological reconstruction of the paths and chapels which, in the cases of unrealized ones, may be highlighted by the choice of exemplary trees present in the symbolism of the baroque and neoclassical garden. The language of the garden as a “place that speaks to the spirit” can be expressed through the introduction of elements such as the sound of water, the symbolism of flowers, of plants through perfumes.

Abstract
The language of the garden as a “place that speaks to the spirit” can be expressed through the introduction of elements such as the sound of water, the symbolism of flowers, of plants through perfumes.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
