The imperative to my research was to design something unique, something individual and something that could be about to change. That is how I have created the Nimbl skin, the system that acts as a body and can change its’ shape in response to the contextual factors and user-based activities. A subject of the research is based on the new approach for architectural design process through interactive architecture. I argue that different factors have contributed to the development of interactive architectural approaches, such as the development of technology, artificial intelligence, robotics, and the effects of each of this factor was important for the final design - the Nimbl skin. My thesis investigates the technical improvements and the current world that is existing in a new environment. Attention must be paid on the fact that the change in the architecture is needed in order to respond to our new lifestyles. What is an interactive architecture? What is the importance of it? How can we find the bridge between the interactive spaces and technology and make it work together? What is the relationship between the human body and space? How can human body control and affect the surrounding environment? These are some of the main questions of the present research. My thesis specifically argues that interactive architecture will become an inevitable part of our environments and spaces in the future. The aim is to use a comparative approach of the most important projects done since they are the best representatives which confirm that our world is evolving and that there as a requirement we must adapt our architecture to current changes. After developing this analysis, the dialogue between the human body and space, starting from the very beginnings, until the present time will be examined. Additionally, the thesis analyses the supportive and, at the same time, conflicting relationship between the interactive spaces and technology. It deals with their current status, using different case studies relevant for my final project. The result of my thesis is the project of the interactive architectural system called Nimbl and a physical prototype that respond to the movement of the human body by using computational technologies for real-time sensing and actuation.

Abstract
The result of my thesis is the project of the interactive architectural system called Nimbl and a physical prototype that respond to the movement of the human body by using computational technologies for real-time sensing and actuation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
