Rice bike inn. A stopping place for cyclists in the middle of rice fields

The project intends to present a model of architectural intervention for the Ciclovia Vento. First of all, we will analyze this work not really from a technical point of view, but from a more strictly social-cultural one, to highlight the extraordinary communicative potential of this type of infrastructure and its important effects on the territory. Consequently, we will investigate which sociological approach underlies the use of the great cycling routes now widespread throughout Europe and the origins of the profound motivations that lead many people to choose a “soft” and “slow” mobility for their leisure activities. Therefore, in order to consider “Vento” not really and not only a path, but a real tale, we will identify, according to parameters that have their roots in the millenary practice of slow traveling, a first stopping place, for those starting from Turin, that can be considered as a “stazione di posta” on the similar way of the historical ones. Our analysis of this way will include the nature of the landscape crossed and its transformations over the centuries and in here we will look for an archetypal place that profoundly represents its spirit. In this place, an ancient Grangia among the rice fields, we propose to realize, in total compliance and respect for the existing, an enabling architectural intervention about the new needs arising from the social phenomenon of slow and sustainable tourism. To conclude, by leaning on materials strictly related to the local economy, we will try to develop a project resulting from a creative process based on a serene and total immersion in the atmosphere of the place, to offer those who want to stop, the memorable experience of a journey in the journey.

Il progetto intende presentare un modello di intervento architettonico a servizio della Ciclovia Vento. Analizzeremo come punto di partenza tale opera non tanto dal punto di vista tecnico, quanto da un punto di vista più strettamente socio-culturale per mettere in luce le straordinarie potenzialità comunicative di questo tipo di infrastruttura e le sue importanti ricadute sul territorio. Indagheremo quale approccio sociologico sottende alla fruizione delle grandi dorsali ciclabili ormai diffuse in tutta Europa e le origini delle motivazioni profonde che spingono tante persone a scegliere una mobilità “dolce” e “lenta” per le loro attività di svago e di piacere. Nell’intento di considerare dunque “Vento” non tanto e non solo un percorso, ma un vero e proprio racconto, identificheremo, secondo parametri che affondano le loro radici nella pratica millenaria del viaggiare con lentezza, un primo luogo di sosta, per chi parta da Torino, che si possa considerare una “stazione di posta” sul genere di quelle storiche. La nostra analisi sul percorso comprenderà la natura del paesaggio attraversato e la sua trasformazione lungo il corso dei secoli e cercherà un luogo archetipo che ne rappresenti profondamente lo spirito. In tale luogo, una antica Grangia fra i campi di riso, ci proponiamo di realizzare in totale rispondenza e rispetto dell’esistente, un intervento di architettura abilitante riguardo alle nuove esigenze nate dal fenomeno sociale del turismo dolce e sostenibile. Appoggiandoci su materiali strettamente connessi all’economia locale, cercheremo di sviluppare un progetto risultato di un processo ideativo fondato sull’immersione serena e totale nelle atmosfere del luogo, per offrire a chi vorrà fermarsi, la memorabile esperienza di un viaggio nel viaggio.
