Ductile hotel Thessaloniki

The Project of the thesis is about the design of a “study” hostel that every floor differs, examining different accommodating scenarios which would cover the needs of a wide variety of travelers, visitors of the city or even short term users like students and professionals. Architecturally, the design of the building and the design of the units (rooms) are two different processes that interact with each other to reach the final outcome that combines both designs to form a single structure. The orientation in terms of the target group of the hostel is focusing on young people that would share some facilities and common spaces which is a situation that forms the character of a unit like this. The proposed location of the project is the city of Thessaloniki/Greece and the plot is an existing plot in the center of the city with much potential for facilities of hospitality. Furthermore to the design of the hostel, some investigation in the urban tissue of Thessaloniki will shed some light in underutilized spaces between existing volumes and that would lead to an urban design proposal that could set an example of possible use of these parts of the tissue.

Il progetto della tesi riguarda la progettazione di un ostello di "studio" che ogni piano differisce, esaminando diversi scenari accomodanti che coprirebbero le esigenze di una grande varietà di viaggiatori, visitatori della città o anche utenti a breve termine come studenti e professionisti. Architettonicamente, la progettazione dell'edificio e il design delle unità (stanze) sono due processi diversi che interagiscono tra loro per raggiungere il risultato finale che combina entrambi i disegni per formare un'unica struttura. L'orientamento in termini di gruppo target dell'ostello si concentra sui giovani che condividono alcune strutture e spazi comuni, una situazione che costituisce il carattere di un'unità come questa. La posizione proposta del progetto è la città di Salonicco / Grecia e la trama è una trama esistente nel centro della città con un grande potenziale per strutture di ospitalità. Inoltre, per la progettazione dell'ostello, alcune indagini nel tessuto urbano di Salonicco faranno luce in spazi sottoutilizzati tra i volumi esistenti e porterebbero a una proposta di progettazione urbana che potrebbe dare l'esempio di un possibile uso di queste parti del tessuto.
