The location for our thesis takes place in Republic of Macedonia, in the village of Popova Sapka which is on the massif of Sar Mountain. The massif Sar Mountain extends from the northeast to the southwest for 80 km with a total surface area of around 1.600 km2, making it one of the largest massifs in the Balkans. It is located 66km from the capital city of Skopje and just above the city of Tetovo. This natural massif in the spring and summer is used for hiking while in the winter for winter sports. Popova Sapka is the fist and the oldest ski centers in Macedonia and it's altitude is between 1,700 - 2,500 meters above sea level. Was built in summer 1947 and was open to the public the very next year. The problems that occurs, concerns the damage of public service, their bad condition and abandonment, meanwhile this natural environment still attracts a lot of visitors and tourists that want to involve themselves with the sport activities. The urban road chaos touches many factors as well as the inside-out circulation and makes a disordered movement. According to the existing situation our solution is build a multifunctional center with an integrated landscape surrounding, that will consist of museum and gallery to point out the history of the ski center, accommodation services, professional rental ski and school department, hiking department, medical center , facilities for kids, contemporary event space and parking lot. With our project we also want to stimulate the idea of Sar Mountain to become a natural park and in the same time becoming a landmark. Therefore it’s really important to try and avoid the resort to becoming a “ghost town” in the summer months. Planning a resort that can compact in on itself during the warm months and hibernate with smaller visitor numbers, allows for continued economic and social sustainability. Attracting off-season visitors by providing different activities and facilities can also help to sustain the destination and create a year-round hotspot. In order to improve the existing urban fabric of the village we need to establish the circulation and the movement of the people, skiers and non-skiers. By researching the past evolution and the flexibility of the location to create a masterplan that will content economic involvement and functional achievement.
