Nuova biblioteca comunale. Progetto di riuso dell'ex convento olivetano di San Sepolcro, Piacenza

The former convent Olivetano of San Sepolcro is a relevant historical building of Piacenza, which currently hosts the offices of the hospital Guglielmo da Saliceto. Such unit is soon going to be transferred to a new location, in order to garantee more modern structures. After the relocation, a vaste area inside the historical tissue of the city will be free and will be added to the urban voids already existing, mainly constituted by former military areas, which are today abandoned. In order to avoid a future abandonment of this neighborhood, it is necessary to proceed quickly to the realization of restoration projects of the area and it is in this direction that my thesis operates. The analysis starts from an urban scale, through which strenght and weakness points of the unit have been located. From these the importance of a particular building has emerged: the former convent Olivetano of San Sepolcro. In fact, thanks to its position and its conformation, it has the possibility of creating a union point between the new neighborhood and the rest of the city. Thus my project focus of the reuse of this building. Another primary goal of this thesis is to reopen the district towards the city: in fact currently there are different limits which impede an immediate passage bewteen the inside and the ouside. Throughout an analysis of the historical viability, new accesses and new pathways will be introduced. This purpose has also influences the choice of the new function to be attributed to the building which is the object of this project, in which a public library will be realised, thus ensuring a constant flux of people.

L’ex convento Olivetano di San Sepolcro è un importante edificio storico di Piacenza, che attualmente ospita gli uffici dell’ospedale Guglielmo da Saliceto. Tale complesso è prossimo a essere trasferito in una nuova collocazione, al fine di garantire strutture più moderne. A seguito della delocalizzazione, sì libererà una vasta area all’interno del tessuto storico della città, che andrà ad aggiungersi ai vuoti urbani già presenti, costituiti principalmente da ex aree militari oggi in disuso. Per evitare un futuro abbandono di questo quartiere, è necessario procedere celermente alla realizzazione di progetti di riqualificazione dell’area ed è proprio in questo senso che opera la mia tesi. L’analisi ha inizio da una scala urbana, tramite la quale sono stati individuati i punti di forza e di debolezza del complesso, da cui è emersa l’importanza di un edificio in particolare: l’ex convento Olivetano di San Sepolcro. Questo, infatti, grazie alla sua posizione e alla sua conformazione, ha la possibilità di creare un punto di unione tra il nuovo quartiere e il resto della città. Il mio progetto si concentra dunque sul riuso di questo edificio. Altro obiettivo fondamentale di questa tesi è quello di riaprire il quartiere verso la città: infatti attualmente sono presenti diversi limiti che impediscono un passaggio immediato tra interno ed esterno. Tramite un’analisi della viabilità storica verrano introdotti nuovi accessi e nuovi percorsi. Questo scopo ha influenzato anche la scelta della nuova funzione da attribuire all’edificio oggetto del progetto, in cui verrà realizzata una biblioteca pubblica, al fine di garantire un flusso costante di persone.
