Tower art for the museum of Palazzo ducale in Mantua. New exhibition space and panoramic terrace for the city

The thesis explores the topics covered during the course "Final Workshop Antico e Nuovo", the project area is located in the museum of Palazzo Ducale in Mantua and more precisely, involves a portion of the Corte Vecchia. The project includes the construction of a new tower for the city; located in a courtyard adjacent to the Courtyard of Santa Croce. The new structure host an exhibition space, the elevator and the stairs to go up to the panoramic terrace that will allow visitors to admire the historic center and the landscape of the lakes. The project aims to establish a dialogue between the old and new, therefore, particular attention was paid to the relationship between the new tower and the city, the choice of materials and the technological aspects. Finally, the design of natural and artificial lighting has allowed to design the space and enhance the features of the works of art.

La tesi approfondisce i temi trattati durante il laboratorio “Final Workshop Antico e Nuovo”, l’area di progetto è situata all’interno del complesso museale di Palazzo Ducale a Mantova e più precisamente, interessa una porzione di Corte Vecchia. L’intervento prevede la realizzazione di una nuova torre per la città; collocata in una corte adiacente al Cortile di Santa Croce. La nuova struttura ospita al suo interno uno spazio espositivo, l’ascensore e le scale per salire alla terrazza panoramica che consentirà ai visitatori di ammirare il centro storico e il paesaggio dei laghi. Il progetto si pone l’obiettivo di instaurare un dialogo tra antico e nuovo, pertanto, è stata prestata particolare attenzione al rapporto fra la nuova torre e la città, alla scelta dei materiali e agli aspetti tecnologici. Infine, la progettazione dell’illuminazione naturale e artificiale ha permesso di disegnare lo spazio e valorizzare le opere d’arte esposte.
