The theme of the thesis concerns the reuse of the Monastery of Nossa Senhora do Desterro, and the redevelopment of its urban surroundings. The building is located into the heart of Lisbon, Portugal and was realized in 1586, on a project by the architect Baltazar Alvarez. After countless historical events, the building has been abandoned for several decades. Similar situations are common in Lisbon, in fact, despite of their historical and architectural qualities, dozens of monastic buildings are now abandoned or underused. In order intervene in such a complex and stratified context, we analyzed the historical link between monastic architecture and city, especially in the case of Lisbon. Furthermore, we studied the most relevant examples of contemporary interventions on monastic heritage made by the masters of Portuguese architecture. The result of this process lead to define most of the design choices.

Abstract
The result of this process lead to define most of the design choices.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
