Teatrologia. Progetto di un teatro sperimentale per la Scala di Milano nell'area Expo 2015

This project of an experimental Theatre Teatrologia, moves from two different points: first, the relationship with the area and the heritage that this EXPO Milano 2015 left us, and more generally with the city of Milan and its suburban areas, and secondly the meaning and the role that an experimental theatre can take on and how this can qualify the structure of the urban territory. This project wants to redevelop this part of the city that is now characterized by a sprawl city that is limited by the infrastructural connections, that generates interstitial and residual spaces disconnected from the shape of the continuous city. The masterplan was made before the actual project done by Carlo Ratti Associati and Land Architects. Once that project was approved by the town council, we decide to compare our ideas and principles. The heritage of Expo and its buildings are become a focal point of the masterplan, and we decide to inglobate and reuse them with other functions. In the logic of reducing the operating cost, the water ring that goes around the area is partially eliminated. We decide to maintain only the section with the natural flow that doesn’t require hydraulic pumps. Particular attention was paid to the Open Theater: we wanted to develop an entire block, which can born from the dialogue between the existing Open Theatre and the new one. This new block is therefore composed by the Open Theatre, the new experimental theatre, an academy for students and the new laboratories of Teatro alla Scala that they will be move from the Ansaldo area. The main concept behind Teatrologia is to create a place that can invite all or the most theater companies and providing them with spaces that allow their maximum representative expression in all its forms.

Il progetto di teatro sperimentale Teatrologia nasce da due punti di origine differenti: da un lato il confronto con il luogo e quindi l’eredità che ci lascia l’esposizione universale EXPO Milano 2015, più in generale con la città di Milano e gli ambiti periurbani con i quali si necessita di un confronto diretto; in secondo luogo il significato e il ruolo che il teatro assume al giorno d’oggi e come può diventare uno strumento di riqualificazione urbana. Il progetto dunque si occupa di valorizzare questa porzione di città diffusa dal carattere frammentario, definita dal tracciato infrastrutturale che, intersecandosi, genera spazi interstiziali e residuali disconnessi dalla forma della città continua. Il masterplan nasce in una fase precedente rispetto al progetto proposto, ed oggi approvato di Carlo Ratti e Land Architects, con il quale ci siamo successivamente confrontati analizzandone contenuto e principi. L’eredità di Expo e le sue permanenze sono diventate parte integrante del progetto urbano, dando loro nuove funzioni e rendendole poli attrattori. Nella logica di riduzione del costo di gestione è stato eliminato parzialmente l’anello d’acqua che perimetrava l’area, mantenendo solamente il tratto con il flusso naturale che non necessita di pompe idrauliche. È stata posta particolare attenzione all’Open Theatre e si è voluto sviluppare un sistema teatrale, che nasce dal dialogo tra l’esistente ed il nuovo teatro sperimentale. Questo nuovo isolato è composto quindi dall’Open Theatre, dal nuovo teatro sperimentale, un’accademia per studenti ed i nuovi laboratori del Teatro alla Scala che saranno spostati dall’area ex Ansaldo. L’idea alla base di Teatrologia è quella di creare un luogo che possa rispondere alle necessità della maggior parte delle compagnie teatrali, fornendo loro spazi che ne consentano la massima espressione rappresentativa in tutte le sue forme.
