From the years following the second world war up to the first decade of the new millennium, an increasing number of urban centers, both large and small, saw the construction of buildings dedicated to entertainment: concert halls, as well as opera houses and congress centers are arose in Los Angeles, Berlin, Sydney, Rome, Porto, Almere, etc. Especially in the last fifteen years, with the closing of the season of the great public museums, the greatest designers have focused increasingly on theaters in order to innovate their use and forms. It is precisely the form, and therefore the relative spatial configurations of theatrical spaces, rigidly fixed in canons by the seven-nineteenth-century tradition, that now come to find a new possibility of interpretation: foyers and reduced spaces, as well as stages and technical spaces undergo a transformation radical, under the pressure of new technological possibilities and the appearance in the building for the show of new public spaces (exhibition halls, multimedia halls, artistic and musical workshops, commercial spaces, etc.). All this opens up new perspectives for designers, expanding their ability to experiment with innovative architectural forms, at the same time innovating the relationship between theater and the city and opening up a flexible use of space. In this ambit of new and stimulating possibilities our proposal of experimental theater moves. Located in the former expo area, a crucial area for the future development of the city of Milan, recently sanctioned by an innovative project to convert the site into a large multi-specialty research center by the archistar Carlo Ratti. It is precisely from the CRA masterplan that our project proposal starts, integrating the highlights of the Ratti proposal with the focal points of our proposal.
Dagli anni successivi al secondo dopoguerra fino al primo decennio del nuovo millennio un numero sempre maggiore di centri urbani, sia di grandi che di piccole dimensioni, hanno visto la costruzione di edifici dedicati allo spettacolo: concert halls, così come opera house e centri congressi sono sorti a Los Angeles, Berlino, Sydney, Roma, Porto, Almere, etc. Specialmente negli ultimi quindici anni, con la chiusura della stagione dei grandi musei pubblici, i più grandi progettisti si sono concentrati sempre di più sui teatri al fine di innovarne l’utilizzo e le forme. E’ proprio la forma, e quindi le relative configurazioni spaziali degli spazi teatrali, rigidamente fissata in canoni dalla tradizione sette-ottocentesca, vengono ora a trovare una nuova possibilità di interpretazione: foyer e ridotti, così come anche palcoscenici e spazi tecnici subiscono una trasformazione radicale, sotto la spinta delle nuove possibilità tecnologiche e alla comparsa nell’edificio per lo spettacolo di nuovi spazi pubblici (sale espositive, sale multimediali, altelier artistici e musicali, spazi commerciali, etc.). Tutto ciò apre nuove prospettive per i progettisti ampliando la loro possibilità di sperimentare con forme architettoniche innovative, innovando allo stesso tempo il rapporto del teatro con la città e aprendo ad un uso flessibile degli spazi. In questo ambito di nuove e stimolanti possibilità si muove la nostra proposta di teatro sperimentale. Situato in area ex-expo, un’area cruciale per lo sviluppo futuro della città di Milano, sancito recentemente da un innovativo progetto di conversione del sito in un grande centro di ricerca polispecialistica dallo studio dell’archistar Carlo Ratti. Proprio dal masterplan di CRA prende le mosse la nostra proposta progettuale, andando ad integrare i punti salienti della proposta di Ratti con i punti focali della nostra proposta.
