Next stadium. Paradigma sportivo e architettonico tra utopia e realtà

The thesis work attempts to merge the common passion for sport with the research and design activity, setting the goal of defining a new sports infrastructure model that can answer to the contemporary and future needs of sport, its protagonists and of the city: The Next Stadium. The following realization, supported by constant research and numerous contacts with scholars in the sector, is divided into four phases. The first examines sport and its postmodern definition, with particular attention to the last thirty years, understood as socio-economic and cultural indicators of a society. Successively is analyzed the evolution of sport’s events and of the subjects involved, outlining the present and future needs of the world of performance and the new characteristics assumed. This is followed by a survey of the places that host sporting events, how they have evolved both in terms of users and the composition of functions, and in the relationship with the urban context. The analysis, interpretation and cataloging of the case studies, chosen on the basis of the pre-established objective and the outcomes of the previous phases, represent the methodological backbone of the project preparation work. The fourth and last phase collects the results of the research and merges them into a design experience, which gives form and content to the new model of sports infrastructure, paying specific attention to its components and links with the historical urban space, hypothesizing its verification in a precise context.

Il lavoro di tesi tenta di fondere la comune passione per lo sport con l’attività di ricerca e di progettazione, ponendosi l’obiettivo di definire un nuovo modello di infrastruttura sportiva capace di rispondere alle esigenze contemporanee e future dello sport, dei suoi protagonisti e della città: The Next Stadium. Il seguente elaborato, supportato da una costante ricerca e da numerosi contatti con studiosi del settore, si articola in quattro fasi. La prima esamina lo sport e la sua definizione postmoderna, con particolare attenzione agli ultimi trent’anni, intesi come indicatori socio-economici e culturali di una società. Successivamente si analizza l’evoluzione degli eventi sportivi e dei soggetti coinvolti, delineando le esigenze presenti e future del mondo della performance e le nuove caratteristiche assunte. Segue un’indagine dei luoghi che ospitano gli eventi sportivi, come si sono evoluti sia per quanto riguarda l’utenza e la composizione delle funzioni, sia nel rapporto con il contesto urbano. L’analisi, l’interpretazione e la schedatura dei casi studio, scelti in base all’obiettivo prefissato e agli esiti delle fasi precedenti, rappresentano l’ossatura metodologica del lavoro di preparazione al progetto. La quarta ed ultima fase raccoglie gli esiti della ricerca e li fonde in un’esperienza progettuale, che dà forma e contenuto al nuovo modello di infrastruttura sportiva, ponendo specifica attenzione alle sue componenti e legame con lo spazio storico urbano, ipotizzandone la verifica in un preciso contesto.
