This analysis has been conducted actively contributing to the energy team activities. In the first phase, available data about energy consumption have been summarized to assess the trend of the plant energy performance over the last years. The second phase was oriented towards the improvement of the energy management system, mainly through the definition of energy performance indicators for specific energivorous processes or pieces of equipment and their periodical monitoring. The collaboration in the Energy Diagnosis compilation by communicating the needed data to the Energy Service Company that is in charge of its realization was the opportunity to focus also on the regulatory framework in which energy efficiency is included at a national and European level, and to compare mandatory and voluntary methods to analyse energy performance of a plant with the aim of individuating the possibilities of improvement.

Abstract
The participation in the activities of the plant dedicated to liquid detergents production belonging to Henkel Italia Operation S.r.l. has been an opportunity to analyse the various means that an organization has to control its energy performance and implement economically viable action plans with the final objective of increasing energy efficiency. Achievement of energy performance improvement requires the collaboration of all the levels of the organization: this has given the work added value in terms of adapting communication register to the various situations. Improving energy efficiency is crucial to face the global challenges related to our future. The energy use in industrial sector globally continues to grow, but efficiency measures can control its increase. The focus of the thesis is understanding how an Energy Management System compliant with the international standard UNI EN ISO 50001 operates and identifies the opportunities of improvement. This analysis has been conducted actively contributing to the energy team activities.
