In recent years, IOMS are more and more used for the monitoring and control of atmospheric emissions originating from industrial activities. However, the lack of regulation on IOMS requirements and the absence of standardization limits their diffusion on the market. Nowadays, both national and European entities are working to define standardization protocols for IOMS. This thesis work aims to develop a testing procedure for IOMS qualification as environmental odour monitoring tools. In particular, this work aims to provide a scientific basis for the development of specific protocols for the qualification of these instruments. The research activity allows to: • Develop a testing procedure for instrument qualification based on EN15267:2009 and EN14181:2014, which involves three levels of testing; • Evaluate the applicability of the procedure in the laboratory, in order to obtain preliminary information useful for the evaluation of the performance of two instruments and their comparison; • Evaluate the applicability of the field procedure to verify laboratory results. This thesis presents the application of the defined experimental protocol to two different commercial IOMS, the RubiX POD WT1 and the Sacmi EOS507F. Besides demonstrating the applicability of the proposed protocol on two IOMS with different characteristics and prices, the results obtained show that the EOS507F proves better performances than the WT1, due to the fact that the EOS507F is especially developed for the monitoring of receptor, while the WT1 is a simplified tool for fence-line monitoring. The protocol here developed provides key information to enable the final user and the local authority to choose the most adequate IOMS for the specific application, also in view of the cost/benefit ratio.

Abstract
The protocol here developed provides key information to enable the final user and the local authority to choose the most adequate IOMS for the specific application, also in view of the cost/benefit ratio.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
