This study aims at carrying out a safety assessment of Small Scale Liquefied Natural Gas storage facilities. The thesis is made up of three main sections. The first one is a technical evaluation of the LNG deposits currently existing on the market, i.e. the ones already realized and prototypes. The second one is an analysis of general safety issues related to Small Scale deposits. Finally, chapters 3 and 4 deal with the analysis of incidental consequences of a hypothetical deposit in the Italian harbour area. The identification of the most credible accident scenarios and the assignment of the relative frequency of occurrence is carried out through Prometeo, a method based on the events tree analysis (ETA), which is able to mutually relate the type of fluid released, its release temperature and the ignition sources of the surrounding area.

Abstract
This study aims at carrying out a safety assessment of Small Scale Liquefied Natural Gas storage facilities. The thesis is made up of three main sections. The first one is a technical evaluation of the LNG deposits currently existing on the market, i.e. the ones already realized and prototypes. The second one is an analysis of general safety issues related to Small Scale deposits. Finally, chapters 3 and 4 deal with the analysis of incidental consequences of a hypothetical deposit in the Italian harbour area. The identification of the most credible accident scenarios and the assignment of the relative frequency of occurrence is carried out through Prometeo, a method based on the events tree analysis (ETA), which is able to mutually relate the type of fluid released, its release temperature and the ignition sources of the surrounding area.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
