Dose of hope

It was the night was the 26th of April 1986 that changed the fate of the city of Chernobyl forever. The nuclear power plant accident that happened that night has left continuous impacts in the world – impacts that are still present up to this day and will remain as such for the following thousands of years. 33 years have passed since humans moved out and left behind all they ever had. This case, as sensitive and dark as it is, showed the world once again the power of Mother Nature because soon after people moved out, wildlife and nature moved in giving the place a post-apocalyptic image. Surprisingly, it became a touristic attraction for the people who develop strong sense of curiosity for such places. The thesis aims to provide information about the Chernobyl disaster, its impacts, current state and a possible future while involving literature reviews that span in different disciplines. The goal is two-fold: first, my commitment to prove that even a place like Chernobyl could hopefully have a future from which people could benefit and second to create a clear relationship between architecture, humans and experience because I believe that this is what architecture is all about. The thesis offers ideas for a potential future for the contaminated zone by involving the dark tourist experience coupling with the production of energy, food and the waste treatment, offering proposals for the remediation of the zone and further elaborating the project for a research center. The thesis is focused in three main parts of the exclusion zone including Chernobyl, Pripyat and the area around the Nuclear Power Plant and it is as well organized in three parts: PAST – elaborating the history of the city, accident, impacts and experience of people, PRESENT - elaborating the current state of the city and FUTURE – proposing a relevant project which would enhance the idea that there is still hope for Chernobyl

Era la notte del 26 aprile 1986 a cambiare il destino della città di Chernobyl per sempre. L'incidente della centrale nucleare quello che è successo quella notte ha lasciato impatti continui nel mondo - impatti che sono ancora presenti fino ad oggi e rimarranno come tale per le seguenti migliaia di anni. Sono passati 33 anni da quando gli umani sono usciti e sono rimasti indietro tutto quello che hanno mai avuto Questo caso, per quanto sia sensibile e oscuro com'è, ha mostrato il mondo ancora una volta il potere di Madre Natura perché presto dopo che la gente si è trasferita, la natura e la natura si sono trasferite nel dare il posiziona un'immagine post-apocalittica. Sorprendentemente, divenne un turismo attrazione per le persone che sviluppano un forte senso di curiosità per tali posti. La tesi si propone di fornire informazioni sul disastro di Chernobyl, i suoi impatti, lo stato attuale e un possibile futuro mentre coinvolge recensioni di letteratura che abbracciano diverse discipline. L'obiettivo è duplice: in primo luogo, il mio impegno per dimostrare che anche a posto come Chernobyl si spera possa avere un futuro da cui le persone potrebbero beneficiare e in secondo luogo creare una relazione chiara tra architettura, umani ed esperienza perché credo che questo è ciò che l'architettura è tutto. La tesi offre idee per un futuro potenziale per i contaminati zona coinvolgendo l'esperienza turistica oscura con l'accoppiamento la produzione di energia, cibo e trattamento dei rifiuti, offerta proposte per il risanamento della zona e ulteriori elaborazioni il progetto per un centro di ricerca.
