Posterior fixation based on spinal rods is the gold standard for the treatment of spinal deformaties. Titanium rods have adequate biocompatibility and mechanical properties, but have a low fatigue strength. The purpose of this study is to develop a validated numerical model of a specific brand of titanium rods, which would be capable of predicting their fatigue behaviour. Six different fatigue configurations (load levels) were simulated mimicking some previous experiments performed in four-points bending configuration. The equivalent Sines stress has been chosen as fatigue index and it was possible to interpret the fatigue output in each configuration. It can be concluded that the numerical analysis herein performed is consistent with the experimental data.

Abstract
It can be concluded that the numerical analysis herein performed is consistent with the experimental data.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
