Isfahan is a great historical city in the heart of Iran which was the Capital for ages. many splendid historical places and unique architectural styles can be found there. One remarkable aspect about it is traditional courtyard houses that are remained all over the city separately or as a historical area in different zones. The courtyards in these houses play a significant role in their forms and functions. Recently, in historical fabrics, many traditional houses are being destroyed because of being an obstacle in urban development plans or because of having the improper condition due to incorrect conservation policies. Moreover, the traditional courtyard houses have been greatly neglected because they are not anymore able to respond to the needs of modern life. Therefore, many people prefer to live in modern settlements which the courtyards have no longer defined in them. in some cases, the courtyard still exists but its meaning and sense have been changed. Therefore, the idea is to preserve these traditional courtyard houses to reduce the impact of environmental issues and to present them as both private and also public courtyards which can be community public centers. For this idea, we can use many traditional courtyard houses that are abandoned and modify the private ones in a way to be livable again. For the public ones, we can give them different functions to provide different services for the community. These places can be connected and work as an integrated system to achieve both ecological and social purposes. Hence, by transforming the courtyard to a public space not only we will define a new meaning for it but also, we will have a dynamic and active space.

Abstract
Hence, by transforming the courtyard to a public space not only we will define a new meaning for it but also, we will have a dynamic and active space.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
