Innovative education concept and innovative design have become the future development trend of contemporary primary schools, providing more dynamic and comfortable learning space for students in the 21st century. This paper takes some contemporary and innovative primary school projects in Italy and China that have been completed since 2000 as the research object, and aims to summarize their innovative design methods. The main approach adopted in this research is the comparison between the Italian and Chinese situations. This paper starts from the brief comparison of the social background, education system and national technical standards of Italy and China. On this basis, the selected cases are introduced and the similarities and differences in the fundamental composition of schools in the two countries are obtained by comparing the size of schools, outdoor space and interior functions. The innovative design was set in terms of tables of different research subjects generally in four aspects - space innovation, finish innovation, ecology innovation and society innovation. The results of the analysis will provide reference for the design and development of primary schools in the future.
