Re-thinking of the former slaughterhouse in Monza : l'ex Macello

In recent centuries, the industrial revolution has a significant impact on urban transformation. The mass production technology transformed the small cities into large urban developments which include also complex residential, transportation and service systems. The former slaughterhouse in Monza was one of those systems where was the meat production under the control of the municipality in addition to Fruit and Vegetable Market, and Livestock Market. However, it is abandoned for more than 30 years such as the other post-industrial sites in Monza. Therefore, the project aims to study the problem of the former slaughterhouse within its background from the viewpoint of industrial archaeology and conservation approach, and it intends to search for the ways how it could be well-connected to the urban context. In this way, it could follow the idea of production, but also creates social-cultural activities within the proposal of Agri-culture Park.

Negli ultimi secoli, la rivoluzione industriale ha un impatto significativo sulla trasformazione urbana. La tecnologia di produzione di massa ha trasformato le piccole città in grandi sviluppi urbani che includono anche complessi sistemi residenziali, di trasporto e di servizi. L’ex macello di Monza era uno di quei sistemi in cui la produzione di carne era sotto il controllo del comune, oltre al mercato ortofrutticolo e al mercato del bestiame. Tuttavia, viene abbandonato per oltre 30 anni come gli altri siti post-industriali di Monza. Pertanto, il progetto mira a studiare il problema dell’ex mattatoio nel suo contesto dal punto di vista dell’archeologia industriale e dell’approccio di conservazione, e intende cercare i modi in cui potrebbe essere ben collegato al contesto urbano. In questo modo, potrebbe seguire l’idea di produzione, ma crea anche attività socio-culturali all’interno della proposta del Parco Agri-cultura.
