Hydrofoil sailing vehicles present a complex dynamical behavior strongly affected by hydrofoil overall shape. Quantitative analysis of dynamical properties has been performed using classical aircraft flight dynamics methods. Models used to compute external forces produced by different elements, are kept low in complexity to emphasize a systemic perspective on the problem. Classical finite wing models operating in linear lifting conditions are used to model aerodynamic and hydrodynamic forces. Static trim conditions reproducing sea trials measurements have been computed. The dynamic behavior has been linearized around this trim states and linear system stability properties of this conditions have been studied in terms of eigenvalue position on the complex plane. The influence of hydrofoil geometry on dynamical properties of the system, has been studied by sweeping over different hydrofoil tip angles. The destabilizing effects of reducing Hydrofoil tip dihedral angle, known from sea trials, have been investigated in detail.
Gli aliscafi a vela presentano un complesso comportamento dinamico fortemente influenzato dalla forma dell'appendice idrodinamica principale. Attraverso l'uso dei metodi della dinamica del volo, sono state effettuate analisi quantitative delle proprietà dinamiche del volo di questi veicoli. I modelli usati per calcolare le forze esterne generate dai diversi elementi che compongono il veicolo hanno un basso livello di complessità per enfatizzare una visione sistemica sul problema. Le forze aerodinamiche e idrodinamiche sono calcolate usando un modello classico di ala di apertura finita operante in regime di portanza lineare. Sono stati calcolati trim statici per il veicolo riproducenti misure da prove in mare. La dinamica del veicolo è stata linearizzata attorno agli stati di equilibrio precedentemente calcolati e le proprietà dinamiche del sistema linearizzato, sono state studiate mediante l’analisi degli autovalori sul piano complesso. L’influenza che la geometria dell’appendice idrodinamica principale ha sulle sulle proprietà dinamiche globali del sistema, è stata studiata facendo variare l’angolo diedro del tip dell’appendice stessa. L’effetto destabilizzante di una eccessiva riduzione dell’angolo dietro, nota da prove in mare, è stata studiata in dettaglio.
