The Corporate Venture Capital in the Energy Industry is one of the instruments used to satisfy the constant need of innovation requested in the sector. In the last 10 years, the numbers characterizing this phenomenon of CVC are increasing more and more, to witness the relevance that this kind of investment is taking on. The present thesis wants to investigate the phenomenon through the study of a database created ad hoc of 292 CVC deals of energy companies. Furthermore, it has been taken into account the technology driver industry, sector strictly related to the one subject of study and more mature in the CVC field. Through the development and the study of another database of 211 deals, coming from these second industry, it has been conducted a comparative analysis with the scope of identifying possible common patterns and forecasting the evolution of the corporate VC in the energy industry.
Il Corporate Venture Capital nel settore energetico è uno dei principali strumenti per soddisfare il costante bisogno di innovazione richiesto in questa industria. Negli ultimi 10 anni i numeri che caratterizzano questo fenomeno sono in continuo aumento, a testimonianza della sempre maggior rilevanza che sta assumendo. La presente tesi vuole investigare il fenomeno del CVC attraverso lo sviluppo e l’analisi di un database contenente 292 deals fatti da compagnie appartenenti al settore dell’energia. È stata inoltre considerata l’industria dei “technology provider”, settore strettamente correlato a quello dell’energia e che risulta essere più maturo rispetto al primo nel campo dei Corporate VC. Attraverso lo sviluppo e lo studio di un altro database contenente 211 deals proveniente da questa seconda industria oggetto di studio, è stata condotta un’analisi comparativa con lo scopo di identificare possibili similitudini e predire la futura evoluzione dei CVC nel settore energetico.
