Abstract
The technological innovation pervaded every sector, modifying business functions (from marketing to operations), business models and consumers’ behaviour. This change occurred and is still occurring in gaming sector too. In particular, in the last two decades online gambling has developed and is living a continuous growth: new actors entered in this industry and the approach of players to gambling platforms is evolving, just think of the diffusion of mobile channel, that allows customers to play even in mobility. In this scenario, the government actions aim at regulating a sector that is very dynamic and important in terms of amount of money involved (in Italy, for example, the volume of gambling is more than 1% of GDP ), as well as the strategies of companies operating, which are living a transition phase. In the past, they adopted strategies based on the profit maximization from each single player. Today, they must take into consideration the higher level of attention to aspects like sustainability and player protection. A passage from the “compliance” era to the “strategic” era is occurring: operators tend to look for a “responsible gambling” culture. In fact, the regulatory framework and the political and social-health contexts led the companies to develop strategies in which ethical issues and the social responsibility of the sector represent an important part. Technology has a fundamental role in this transition process thanks to its potentialities. Big data systems and artificial intelligence algorithms provides much more information which can be exploited in order to manage marketing actions: it is possible to identify new business models aimed at building long-term relationships with customers that are “safe”, controlled and able to entertain and protect players, predicting and avoiding problematic behaviours. The aim of this work is to study how these technologies, as well as others (cloud, virtual and augmented reality, blockchain and cryptocurrencies) are changing the online gambling supply chain, not only from the “technological” point of view, but also in terms of “supply chain responsibility”, intended as evolution of the simple adaptation to the regulatory framework.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
