Exploring different prototype perspectives to sprint innovation in a highly regulated sector

The starting point of the dissertation was the exploration of prototyping practices through a systematic literature review. Therefore, starting from a research string, only those sources considered relevant were selected in order to understand prototyping more in depth. This led to the development of a conceptual framework called "Prototyping cube". Once the general framework characterizing the concept of prototype and the process around it had been clarified, an empirical research was developed with the aim of expanding a particular approach to prototyping in a highly regulated sector. This was possible thanks to the interaction with a company that is trying to revolutionize its way of innovating active in the pharmaceutical sector. Through the study of six projects developed by the company, it was possible to expand a particular vision of prototyping to a previously unseen context. To conclude, a framework summarizing the approach used by the company was developed.

La prima parte della dissertazione è dedicata all'esplorazione delle pratiche di prototipazione tramite una review sistematica della letteratura. Pertanto, partendo da una stringa di ricerca, sono state selezionate solamente quelle fonti considerate rilevanti per poter comprendere approfonditamente questo tema. Ciò ha portato allo sviluppo di un conceptual framework chiamato "Prototyping cube". Una volta chiarito il quadro generale caratterizzante il concetto di prototipo e il processo attorno ad esso, è stata sviluppata una ricerca empirica avente l'obiettivo di ampliare un particolare approccio alla prototipazione in un settore altamente regolamentato. Questo è stato possibile grazie all'interazione con un'azienda che sta cercando di rivoluzionare il proprio modo di fare innovazione attiva nel settore farmaceutico. Grazie allo studio di sei progetti sviluppati dall'azienda, una particolare visione di prototipazione è stata ampliata ad un contesto precedentemente non studiato. Per concludere, un framework che riassume l'approccio utilizzato è stato sviluppato.
