The Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) paradigm, as the name suggests, enables companies to manage their products along the entire product lifecycle as well as assures communication between company’s units along the whole supply-chain. In the modern era, influenced and driven by the Industry 4.0 (I4.0) revolution, huge amount of different types of data are continuously generated and new technologies are growing for their analysis and management. A feeling about a strong connection between these two paradigms is confirmed by the literature. The data used along the PLM and the way in which data were used changed in order to exploit the opportunities brought by the I4.0. The first aim of this study is to define, in the I4.0 context, which are the New emerging Data, their features and properties building a comprehensive classification of their characteristics. Connecting the I4.0 and the PLM paradigm, the second main objective is the creation of a reference framework in which the different types of data, the phase of the product lifecycle in which are generated and their impact along the entire PLM is reported. From the analysis of the literature, focused on case studies and real applications, the End of Life (EOL) phase of the PLM shows up as an empty area. A collaboration with the FENIX European project and a set of interviews to both academic and companies’ experts made possible to enrich the framework with new applications. Finally, two models: the source-based model and the impact-based model have been created. Two different perspective thought for helping companies to better manage their data and improving their decision-making process. Both the models can help companies in understanding which benefits they can get along the PLM by introducing I4.0 technologies and data.

Abstract
Both the models can help companies in understanding which benefits they can get along the PLM by introducing I4.0 technologies and data.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
