A requirement of shelter is the main meaning of the house but it also contains more deep meanings. In the meantime, it proceeds to be a field of argument that endlessly produces new meanings in the meaning of current practices as well as the numerous stages it has undergone in the historical context. According to Barchelard (1996), the house is a real cosmos. This theory is very important for explaining the meaning of the house. The house is not as autonomous as any other system, and can only make sense by testing the diversity adequately. Eliade (1991) says that the house is a similar model of the cosmos and it consists of many details. Miller says that people convert their house according to the living conditions and also sometimes they have to adapt their house to the spatial restrictions. (accommodating the home, 2002) Therefore, the relationship between people and their homes includes particular harmony and compliance. The meaning of the house depends on the area, culture, and people. From this point of view, it is very necessary for those who deal with the relationships between user and housing in the field of housing studies to consider that beyond a house is a variable process when defining the related dynamics beyond physical and cultural data. People have social features. Because of the new lifestyle, people cannot solve their problems alone and this situation obligates people to live together to share the assignments. The necessity of living together is the basis of the phenomenon of settlement. Cities are part of natural life. Cities at least provide, protection, fresh and clean air, unused water, wastewater purification, transportation. However, because of the uncontrolled growth and schlock government policies make the Lagos uninhabitable. The government doesn`t care about the citizens` needs and many parts of the Lagos there is no infrastructural system or it is not enough. Thanks to the geographical position, Lagos is the most important city in Nigeria. Five ports also dispatching many goods from all African cities. However, in the city, there is no economical balance between people. One part of the Lagos, like Victoria Island, there is a new technological building complex with high-security walls. On the other hand, just 10 km far from Victoria Island, people are living in slums with any infrastructural system or clean water. Many houses don`t include a private toilet or washing area. All these different examples say to us that Lagos is not using its own economic and geographic power. Also, the city doesn`t provide the people`s needs. A requirement of shelter is a very basic necessity which government has to solve. However, in Lagos, the biggest problem is dwelling. According to analyzes, the Ijora part of Lagos includes many slums, they do not have an infrastructure or clean water. People are living together with more than 6 people in just one room. Mostly, children play on the streets that include dirty water. For solving all these problems, firstly, I prefer to use shipping containers which are cheaper and possible to build very quickly. Also, containers are transformable and movable according to necessity. They can be manufactured in the factory and easily assembled in a day. Besides, there are five ports in Lagos which are very close to the selected area. The second solution is collecting rainwater and reuse it. For this solution, I prefer to put a flowers next to the pavement. Water comes from the street and flows into the flower garden slowly. Thanks to the flowers, water is filtered slowly to the pipe and finally, clean water collected in the pipe and it is using in the garden or toilet water. Another problem in the area is flooding. The land consists entirely of soil and does not have any trees. However, thanks to the trees, waterfalls on the ground slowly from the leaves and this obstructs water to burrow to the soil. Besides, trees are absorpt of water with their slumps. The typical three trees are selected according to the position in the area. The main aim of this project is giving a new dwelling approach in poor countries. We know that every person has the right to live in a quality environment. However, sometimes, governments do not care about the citizen`s needs. With a shipping container structure, people can easily build their houses according to necessities. In the first part of my letter, I want to give general information about Africa, Nigeria, and Lagos. Then, I try to understand what is the main characteristic features of Nigerian architecture. Next chapter, the history of the shipping container was explained and I try to understand how should we use shipping containers in our project area. For that reason, some shipping container projects are analyzed in the next chapter.
