MOZIA. A reinterpretation

The main idea of the project is to reorganize the territory of great potential to attract tourists to the region, mainly because of its rich and fascinating history starting from the eighth century BC. The situation currently is that the island is practically abandoned and people are just not that attracted to visit it, even during the tourist season. The infrastructure on the island needs to be completely rethought. The main aim of the project is to make the island accessible for everyone, including disabled visitors and to become a new tourist attraction point in southern Italy. All of the proposed constructions are very light because it would be impossible to build anything with a thick foundation, the island is full of preserved archaeological zones with excavations going on. The new buildings would be built out of natural materials such as wood and stone, echoing the nature and traditional architecture on the island. Besides reorganizing the circulation of the pedestrians and creating new smaller urban zones, three main sites are designed in the project: the kothon, the north gate and the harbour.

L'idea principale del progetto è quella di riorganizzare il territorio con un grande potenziale per attirare i turisti nella regione, principalmente a causa della sua ricca e affascinante storia a partire dall'VIII secolo. La situazione attualmente è che l'isola è praticamente abbandonata e le persone non sono attratte per visitarla, anche durante la stagione turistica. L'infrastruttura sull'isola deve essere completamente ripensata. L'obiettivo principale del progetto è rendere l'isola accessibile a tutti, compresi i visitatori disabili, e farla diventare un nuovo punto di attrazione turistica nel sud Italia. Tutte le costruzioni proposte sono molto leggeri perché sarebbe impossibile costruire qualsiasi cosa con una spessa fondazione, siccome l'isola è piena di zone archeologiche preservate con scavi in ​​corso. I nuovi edifici sarebbero costruiti con dei materiali naturali (legno e pietra), che in questo modo diventino un ecosistema tra la natura e all'architettura tradizionale dell'isola. Oltre a riorganizzare la circolazione dei pedoni e creare le nuove zone urbane più piccole, il progetto comprende tre siti principali: il kothon, la porta nord e il porto.
