Preservation and regeneration practices on decaying historical district in Fuzhou, China. The case Of Shangxia Hang district

In recent years preservation in China has been defined as one of the most important research topics in urban planning strategy. After the reform and opening of Republic of China in 1970s, the preservation issue the has already attracthe ted more and more attention.There has already been many examples of the transformation of historic district in various parts of the China, such as Chengdu Kuan and Zhai Alley, Taigu Li, Shanghai Tianzifang, Xintian,di and so on. The preservation and regeneration projects in these area has made the historic sites revitalized.However some of these projects were criticised as “over-developed”projects ,as most of the case introducing too much commerial and tourism industry. Therefore,which kind of preservation method is the most suitable way to remain the value of historical sites and can achieve successfully future development goal? In order to deepen understand the concept of preservation for historical district,the thesis will take “Shangxia Ha.District“ a typical historical quarter in Fuzhou , Chithe na as a study object. The purpose of the study aims to discussing the existing situation and how to implementing new planning and regeneration strategy restore the authenticity of historical district ,avoiding losing diversity and continuity of culture features, how to correctly guide commercial activities and how to integrate development with historical protection. Through some interviews and data collections from locality ,the thesis suppose to give the protection project guidelines and suggestions for the future development in the end.

Negli ultimi anni la conservazione in Cina è stata definita come uno dei temi di ricerca più importanti nella strategia di pianificazione urbana. Dopo la riforma e l’apertura della Repubblica di Cina negli anni ‘70, la questione della conservazione ha già attirato sempre più attenzione. Vi sono già stati molti esempi della trasformazione del distretto storico in varie parti della Cina, come Chengdu Kuan e Zhai Alley, Taigu Li, Shanghai Tianzifang, Xintiandi e così via. I progetti di conservazione e rigenerazione in quest’area hanno rivitalizzato i siti storici.Tuttavia, alcuni di questi progetti sono stati criticati come progetti “troppo sviluppati”, poiché la maggior parte dei casi ha introdotto troppa industria commerciale e turistica. Pertanto, quale tipo di metodo di conservazione è il modo più adatto per rimanere il valore dei siti storici e può raggiungere con successo l’obiettivo di sviluppo futuro? Al fine di approfondire la comprensione del concetto di conservazione del distretto storico, la tesi prenderà “Shangxia Hang” un tipico quartiere storico di Fuzhou, in Cina, come oggetto di studio. Lo scopo dello studio mira a discutere la situazione esistente e come implementare nuove strategie di pianificazione e rigenerazione per ripristinare l’autenticità del distretto storico, evitando di perdere la diversità e la continuità delle caratteristiche culturali, come guidare correttamente le attività commerciali e come integrare lo sviluppo con la protezione storica . Attraverso alcune interviste e raccolte di dati da località, la tesi suppone di fornire linee guida e suggerimenti per il progetto di protezione per lo sviluppo futuro alla fine.
