Abstract
Global climate change is a very real challenge, and will undoubtedly have significant conflict and security consequences but what is more alarming is the effect of anthropogenic influences in climate change; war being the most serious reason for causing the damage to both artificial and natural landscape. Aleppo was the largest Syrian city before the Syrian Civil war. A city’s destruction as a result of war affects the spatial transformation, loss of physical space and human life. With the bombings & communal chaos the place has lost a lot more than what it had. The neglect of agriculture, Syria’s most important traditional economic sector by the government worsened the impact of a long span drought among rural communities leading to civil war. Water scarcity, whether the byproduct of Climate Change or regional resource conflict, is emerging as a significant threat on a global scale, yet in areas of conflict it adds an even more devastating layer of daily stress. The trauma caused by war, destruction of personal story, unyielding land led to this research topic to envision new climate adapted designs for the city. Among the key options available are improvements in water-use efficiency and productivity in agriculture, better management and monitoring of groundwater resources.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
