São Paulo was the fastest-growing Brazilian city in the entire twentieth century. Although this boosted the Brazilian economy, it also caused many problems when it became a metropolis. Before the urbanization process, the city had more than 200 water streams beyond the two main rivers: Tietê and Pinheiros. Over the years, this fast growth has made the city expand, resulting in accelerated urbanization, and all these water resources first presented in the city water resources have been sacrificed, shrouded or rectified. Nowadays we can clearly see the consequences of these actions, with over 22 million inhabitants São Paulo is facing countless problems. Yearly flooding and drought cycles and high polluted rivers are some of the main issues. The aim of this Master thesis is to investigate the edges conditions between the city and the Pinheiros River.
