In academic literature, solutions to sustainability problems caused by the general population are generally addressed as a governmental problem, however, despise the virtuous examples, reduction of food waste in urban households is still an open problem. The question remains as if there could be a solution that is meaningful for its participants and does not require the government’s intervention. This study focuses on the general population of Shanghai with a series of interviews and photographic observations to understand the cultural and environmental reasons that lead to wasting food. The Chinese abundance of leaving food on the plate to not be disrespectful and the open air exposition of goods to attract customers, merge with a general unwillingness to cook and to keep leftovers, these factors fuelled by the fast pace of the metropolis facilitate people into losing track of the food they own, feeding a loop of negativity. The study proposes a possible solution to help the local community in sustaining itself while growing, by allowing people to rely on local businesses to reduce their individual waste it could be possible to rely on their relationship to reduce the waste that is generated by exposing produce to attract clients. By implementing a Wechat mini program that is complementary to the business of the local fruit vendor it is possible to facilitate people in their habits while reducing their community’s waste.

Abstract
By implementing a Wechat mini program that is complementary to the business of the local fruit vendor it is possible to facilitate people in their habits while reducing their community’s waste.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
