The hospitality network. Re-framing rural-urban dynamics as a sustainable solution to the immigration issue

Humans are, and have always been, nomadic creators. Our ways of migration may have changed over the course of our time on earth, but the predominant reason to migrate is still unchanged: survival. Granted, survival looks different for different people; for those migrating into Italy it could look like a home free of the nearing sounds of gunshots while for others migrating within Italy it probably takes the shape of a satisfactory pay cheque. At this point in time, where we are surrounded by people of different races, cultural backgrounds and religions the one common thread that can always bind us is our willingness to survive, to forge ahead and to prosper and it is from this very commonality that hospitality blossoms. This thesis aims to explore how cultural hospitality can address Italy’s external and internal migration issues through a unified platform which is designed to provide skill development for refugees and facilitate integration while strengthening local rural and sub rural economies.

Gli umani sono, e sono sempre stati, creatori nomadi. Le nostre modalità di migrazione potrebbero essere cambiate nel corso del tempo ma la ragione principale per migrare è ancora invariata: la sopravvivenza. Certo, la sopravvivenza sembra diversa per persone diverse; per quelli che migrano in Italia potrebbe sembrare una casa libera dai suoni degli spari vicini mentre per gli altri migranti in Italia probabilmente prende la forma di un salario soddisfacente. In questo momento, dove siamo circondati da persone di razze diverse, background culturali e religioni, il filo comune che può sempre legarci è la nostra volontà di sopravvivere, di guardare avanti e di prosperare ed è proprio da questa comunanza che l'ospitalità fiorisce. Questa tesi mira a esplorare come l'ospitalità culturale può affrontare le questioni migratorie interne ed esterne in Italia attraverso una piattaforma unificata, progettata per fornire lo sviluppo delle competenze ai rifugiati e facilitarne l'integrazione, rafforzando al contempo le economie delle zone rurali e sub rurali.
