The ecosystem concept received a lot of traction in the past years. It became the most promising approach in the innovation and strategy literature. The presented study aims contributing to the research on ecosystem value creation and appropriation for SME’s by understanding if and how, SME’s can affect their performance. In particular, the dissertation focuses on quantitative analysis of SME’s hub of the ecosystem influences the performance of the SME. Results show that, in order to achieve the best possible performance, SMEs have to open up. In doing so, they are positioning themselves in the center of the ecosystems they are part of. As a result, they are becoming hubs of the respective ecosystem. Additionally, to increase their performance further, they have to use the established position as a hub and extract value out of the ecosystem. Results also show that the hubs that are platform based don’t have an additional increase in performance, which is a finding that differs from the existing literature arguments on platform leadership. This dissertation wants to be an initial contribution for further investigations on understanding which role the ecosystem hub has in influencing performance and an understanding on if being a platform increases the performance of the hub.

Abstract
This dissertation wants to be an initial contribution for further investigations on understanding which role the ecosystem hub has in influencing performance and an understanding on if being a platform increases the performance of the hub.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
