During the second half of the 19th century, Barcelona faced the industrial revolution. The town of Poblenou became the center of production, especially in the textile industry. It was known as the Catalan Manchester for its many chimneys. Throughout history, it maintained this role, even with the expansion of Barcelona. After an economic crisis in 1974 began the process of de-industrialization, many factories stopped production. With time the owners of the factories started to sell or rent former industrial spaces for a low price. This attracted artists who were searching for empty buildings at an available price, suitable for their activities. In 1992 Barcelona hosts the Olympic games - the main trigger for this massive transformation of El Poblenou. In this period Poblenou is included in the administration of Barcelona. In order to connect this area, a new axis - Diagonal Mar has been constructed. The regulation for the land use of Poblenou was obsolete at this point. The new renovation program @22 was introduced, with the aim to convert Poblenou into the district of technology and innovation as well as to increase leisure and residential spaces. During the realization of this program, the district suffered many changes which lead to the conflict between the local community and the interests of the external actors. Nowadays the area of Poblenou deals with a variety of challenges. The aim of this project is to find a negotiation between the ongoing development program and the existing actors of the neighborhood. My inspiration was the city as it is: old factories, invaded by the artists, residential areas with gardens and playgrounds and the modern production blocs full of human float. The people on Poblenou. Taking into consideration the history of the Poblenou and using an innovative and sustainable renovation approach it is possible to create an environment suitable for all groups of the Poblenou district residents.

Abstract
Taking into consideration the history of the Poblenou and using an innovative and sustainable renovation approach it is possible to create an environment suitable for all groups of the Poblenou district residents.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
