The intent of the thesis is to provide an effective framework regarding the characteristics of the worldwide adoption of the most innovative Artificial Intelligence solutions. The discipline, indeed, allows now machines to the performance of tasks previously strictly linked to the intervention of a human intelligence, revealing, disruptively, as an engine of impactful applications among businesses’ and public administrations’ activities. The work was conducted supporting on secondary sources and with the help of the Artificial Intelligence Observatory, which provided the initial database composed by the most important firms according to Forbes: 1550 international firms have been analysed, identifying 1000 cases of AI adoption for 750 companies. The cataloguing process was aimed at creating a significant sample able to generate interesting insights and deductions regarding current adoption’s trends, among which for example are encounterable the industries’ or the geographical distribution, the level of maturity, the allocation of AI classes of solutions, the impacts on business’ processes. Therefore, after an initial exposition containing the discipline’s historical background, the explanation of the theoretical concepts behind the technology, the provision of ethical hints and an introduction to AI in businesses, it is presented the analysis of the results. Revealing as an interesting source of competitive advantage, AI business’ projects, even if at early stages, range from allowing costs reductions enhancing productivity, to improve customer experiences, to predict elements to boost performances or monitoring maintenance. It is found that developed countries are widening the gap respecting to developing countries in the race for AI, through some peculiar sectors like the Banking, Finance & Insurance or the Energy, Resource & Utility, bringing numerous initiatives to improve marketing and after sales services activities or to optimize general productive processes. Further remarks were pointed in regard to the ethical problems raised recently, to complete the exhaustiveness of the discussion. Purposeful would be to raise awareness among traditional businesses concerning the identification of suitable business cases to be implemented, and a consequent necessary design of the correct environment by adapting workflow processes, business culture, workforce’s competences and investments plans, in order to exploit this new disruptive technology.
L’intento della seguente tesi è quello di fornire un quadro efficace circa le caratteristiche dell’adozione, a livello globale, delle più innovative soluzioni di Intelligenza Artificiale. Oggigiorno, infatti, la disciplina permette alle macchine di svolgere compiti precedentemente strettamente legati all’intervento umano, rivelandosi, in modo dirompente, un motore di applicazioni di grande impatto tra le attività delle aziende e delle amministrazioni pubbliche. Il lavoro è stato svolto basandosi sull’analisi di fonti secondarie e con l’aiuto dell’Osservatorio di Intelligenza Artificiale, che ha fornito il database iniziale composto dalle più importanti aziende, a livello di ricavi, secondo l’editoriale Forbes: 1550 aziende internazionali sono state analizzate, identificando 1000 casi di adozione di IA per 750 aziende. Il processo di catalogazione è stato finalizzato a creare un campione significativo capace di generare interessanti approfondimenti e deduzioni riguardo i correnti trend di adozione di IA, tra cui alcuni esempi sono la distribuzione geografica o settoriale, il livello di maturità dei progetti, l’allocazione delle classi di soluzioni o gli impatti sui processi aziendali. Per questo motivo, a seguito di un’iniziale esposizione circa il background storico della disciplina, una spiegazione dei fondamenti teorici alla base dell’IA, l’illustrazione di cenni etici e l’introduzione della disciplina nel mondo del business, viene presentata l’analisi dei risultati. Rivelandosi come un’interessante fonte di vantaggio competitivo, i progetti aziendali basati su IA, anche se in fase iniziale, spaziano dalla possibilità di ottenere riduzioni nei costi migliorando la produttività, al miglioramento della customer experience, alla previsione di elementi per incrementare le performance o monitorare la manutenzione. È stato rilevato che i Paesi sviluppati stanno ampliando il distacco presente con i Paesi in via di sviluppo per la gara all’IA, attraverso alcuni settori specifici quali quello bancario, finanziario e assicurativo o quello energetico, portando numerose iniziative per migliorare il marketing o i servizi post-vendita o per migliorare i generali processi produttivi. Ulteriori commenti sono stati proposti circa i problemi etici sollevati recentemente, per completare l’esaustività della trattazione. Un elemento propositivo è stato, inoltre, quello di sottolineare il necessario aumento della consapevolezza, tra le tradizionali aziende, riguardo l’identificazione di adatti casi di business da implementare al proprio interno e della relativa conseguente riprogettazione del corretto contesto, adattandone i processi lavorativi, la cultura aziendale, le competenze dei lavoratori e i piani di investimento, al fine di sfruttare questa nuova dirompente tecnologia.
