The process of developing and writing this master thesis began in March 2018, when I started working as an intern for a company, leader in the fields of shipments and transports for the last century as well as in the logistic area for the past twenty years, offering customized services to the clients: Bianchi & C. in Como. In order to understand the mechanism of the Transport and Supply Chain, I had to deepen my knowledge regarding the transport field, which I studied during my master degree, and I also had to approach and comprehend an entire new area, the logistics’ one. The logistics hub where I did my internship presented some criticism at my arrival, which I presented in this thesis; my goal, as well as my colleagues’, was to develop a plan in order to improve the efficiency of the logistics pole and to present it to the board of directors. I divided this thesis in two parts: after a brief introduction, I talked about transports and logistics, explaining what they are in a theoretical way. I showed some innovative technologies used to improve the efficiency of a warehouse and, therefore, of the supply chain. At the end of this first section I focused on the description of freight villages, which represent the perfect synthesis of transports and logistics, citing some Italian examples. In the second part I presented the company Bianchi & C. and, in particular, the logistic pole in Varese, describing its criticism; thanks to the deep and careful analysis of the initial situation and the dialogue with my colleagues, I was able to suggest some adjustments, which were approved by the board of directors and that actually lead to some improvements in this logistic hub.
Il percorso di stesura e redazione di questa tesi ha inizio nel marzo 2018, periodo in cui ho iniziato un significativo periodo di tirocinio presso un’importante Azienda che da quasi cent’anni opera nel settore delle spedizioni e dei trasporti e, negli ultimi vent’anni, offre servizi su misura nel campo della logistica, riservando una particolare attenzione al cliente: la Bianchi & C. di Como. Oltre alle conoscenze inerenti l’ambito dei trasporti, derivanti dal percorso di studio intrapreso, ho approfondito a livello teorico un ambito per me nuovo, quello della logistica, in modo da comprendere in toto il meccanismo della filiera del trasporto e, più in generale, della Supply Chain, aspetto fondamentale nell’Azienda citata. L’hub logistico in cui ho effettuato il tirocinio presentava al mio ingresso diverse criticità, che verranno esplicitate nel corso dell’elaborato; il fine ultimo, da parte mia e dei miei colleghi, è stata quella di proporre ai vertici aziendali alcuni interventi migliorativi, che potessero incrementare l’efficienza del polo logistico. Dopo una prima parte introduttiva, ho riportato una sezione teorica sia per l’ambito dei trasporti che per quello della logistica; per quest’ultimo ho illustrato delle tecnologie innovative per incrementare il valore aggiunto di un magazzino e, di conseguenza, della catena di distribuzione all’interno della quale si pone il deposito stesso. Successivamente ho dedicato un capitolo alla descrizione degli interporti, che rappresentano appieno la sintesi tra logistica e trasporti, riportando alcuni esempi di realtà italiane. Ho poi presentato la Bianchi & C. e, in seguito, ho illustrato la situazione del polo logistico di Varese, descrivendone le criticità; l’attenta analisi della situazione iniziale, oltre alle conoscenze derivanti dal dialogo con i colleghi dell’ufficio e con i quelli del magazzino, hanno portato alla formulazione di alcune ipotesi di intervento migliorative, che sono state proposte alla direzione ed accettate e che hanno effettivamente portato notevoli benefici all’ultimo nato hub logistico di Bianchi Group.
