Moscow is a fast-growing modern metropolis that is transforming drastically nowadays. It is evolving from a city with spread scattered districts into a united urban organism with the interconnected diverse transportation system, outstanding natural environment and welcoming public spaces and touristic areas. In the close future, it is planned to be transformed into a highly technological smart city, catching up the global urban trends. But, like every big city, Moscow has a lot of big issues that have to be solved to reach the goal. Besides economic, social and political problems, the city organization guidance has to be rethought in terms of stop high pace of motorization, that cause a dramatic traffic load; creating a united well interconnected pedestrian network and base the urban planning standards on supporting it; closing the gap of lack of cycling urban network that is more and more in demand in recent years; solving a catastrophic ecological problem of air, water and soil pollution; and reshaping the undeveloped housing architecture and construction market to create truly affordable, high-quality and modern residential space for citizens. This thesis research is aimed to study these issues, highlight their main reasons and aspects, and propose some architectural ways of solving them. The final project serves as a case study to think over the opportunities of changing the current urban planning and architectural standards that can stimulate the development of the city and transform Moscow into a truly comfortable and sustainable city of the 21st century.

Abstract
The final project serves as a case study to think over the opportunities of changing the current urban planning and architectural standards that can stimulate the development of the city and transform Moscow into a truly comfortable and sustainable city of the 21st century.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
