This M.Sc. thesis work deals with the dynamic simulation and plantwide control of a biogas to liquid process, BIGSQUID. Mainly foccused on biogas to syngas production, for a syngas with properties suitable for pruduction of methanol, on a further stage of the process. The process has been studied and developed by SUPER (Sustainable Process Engineering Research) group of the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering “Giulio Nata” of Politecnico di Milano. The scope of this work was developing its dynamic simulation, plantwide control and the Start-up procedure for the plant. The control scheme was proposed, the controllers were tuned and the sequences of operation for the start-up were shown to be effective and stable in its transition state, reaching steady state without difficulties. Finally, the plant wide control was validated successfully by perturbating the inlet flow rate of the biogas on ± 20% from the set point, reaching as a result, a temperature control with a maximum variation of 30 degrees Celsius from the set point on the furnace outlet temperature, hence, having imperceptible variations on the outlet product compositions.
