Susa TE.PA. - A technological park in a dismissed military area

SUSA TE.PA. is a technological park created with the intention to combine different activities in a place where Nature and Memory are the main characters of the site. It can be the right answer to the new needs of the territory because the different thematic areas declared by urban organization and architecture form can provide a perfect working environment, interrupted by sports activities happening on the River and a way of staying with the same principles of a camping. Situated inside a big ex-military area, the SUSA TE.PA. uses the old buildings to create a new site geometry based on pre-existences: the new design is considering different elements that helps to preserve today's value of that piece of land. The design has been thought ready to embrace the changes: today the needs are more stuck, with no hurry to have more or less space; tomorrow the working space may have to be changed one day with the other. That’s why the masterplan highlights different open-air spaces with different pavement texture. The aim is also to reconnect people to nature, thanks to the strong relationship with the river Dora Riparia and with the natural borders of the site made of trees, that creates a sort of protection from the outside: the area is not visible from the highway, either from closer lands and streets. Following the natural order of the history, this place can become another important strategical site in the Susa Valley territory: thanks to its strategical position referred to the next Susa TAV Station (not sure that the station will be built) it will be an important joint between different economic sector present in the valley.

SUSA TE.PA. è un parco tecnologico creato con l'intenzione di combinare diverse attività in un luogo dove Natura e Memoria sono i protagonisti del sito: diventa la risposta ai nuovi possibili bisogni del territorio grazie alla sua divisione organizzativa e tematica. Lo spazio urbano e lo spazio architettonico riescono a produrre ambienti di lavoro ideali, con la possibilità di avere attività sportive a portata di mano e di avere un posto dove dormire con gli stessi principi di un campeggio. Situato all'interno di una grande area ex-militare, la SUSA TE.PA. utilizza i vecchi edifici per creare una nuova geometria del sito basata sulle pre-esistenze: il nuovo design considera diversi elementi che aiutano a preservare il valore di quell’appezzamento di terra di oggi. Il design è stato pensato pronto ad abbracciare i cambiamenti: oggi le esigenze sono più statiche, senza fretta di avere più o meno spazio; domani lo spazio di lavoro potrebbe cambiare un giorno con l'altro. Ecco perché il masterplan mette in evidenza diversi spazi all'aperto con diverse texture nella pavimentazione. L'obiettivo è anche quello di riconnettere le persone alla natura, grazie al forte rapporto con il fiume Dora Riparia e con i confini naturali del sito, che creano una sorta di protezione dall'esterno: l'area non è visibile dall'autostrada, sia da terre e strade più vicine. Seguendo l'ordine naturale della storia, questo luogo può diventare un altro importante sito strategico nel territorio della Valle di Susa: grazie alla sua posizione riferita alla prossima Stazione Susa TAV (probabilmente non realizzabile) sarà un importante punto in comune tra i diversi settori economici presenti nella valle.
