Ridisegnare, ricucire, riattivare : un nuovo ruolo urbano per l'area delle ex OGM di Torino.

Torino is a city which is slowly trying to see towards the future and to not look back to its industrial history and fame through important project and punctual plans of riqualifications. The city shows a reality which is facing a changing of paradigm: from being an industrial and wokr based city to new economy challangings and new identities. Since the industrial areas cover a big portion of the city, this change could potentially and theoretically cover till a seventh of the entire city. Some of those realities has already seen the construction of new projects which are already considered as guidelines nowadays. Others instead are still waiting a new purpose for the city’s dynamics. Out thesis point out an urban void left by the Officine Grandi Motori as an important design opportunity and crucial for the city and for the neighboorhood where this is located, Barriera di Milano. This district is almost perceived as suburb even though the distance with the city center is not so relevant. It’s probably this big void left by the industry which made the area more and more far away. The design goal is to identify the new central role for the ex OGM as it had it in the past. Is the area able to play a central role per the district again? To embody again its life and brightness? Is it able to connect with the urban streets and the flows creating new dynamics? Which shapes and spaces are we able to imagine to keep the industrial memory intact? Renovating the industrial builfings, builiding new ones and designing the public space we tried to find the answers to the questions the area is waiting to give.

Torino è una città che lentamente sta cercando di guardare al futuro per lasciarsi alle spalle la sua storia di città industriale attraverso importanti piani ed interventi di riqualifica puntuale. Questa città mostra una realtà che vede un passaggio da un regime urbano prevalentemente destinato al lavoro, alla produzione e all’industria e verso qualcosa di nuovo. Torino è in cerca di nuovi paradigmi di crescita e di una nuova identità e questo cambiamento potenzialmente potrebbe arrivare a coinvolgere fino ad un settimo dell’intera superificie della città. Alcune di queste realtà hanno già visto la realizzazione di progetti che si possono definire pilota e che sono d’ispirazione, altre invece stanno tutt’ora aspettando il loro ricollocamento rispetto alle dinamiche della città. La nostra tesi individua il vuoto lasciato dall’area delle ex officine grandi motori come occasione progettuale importante e determinante per l’intera area urbana, data la sua posizione e la sua dimensione. Può infatti essere considerata come cerniera tra il centro storico e un quartiere, Barriera di Milano, percepito quasi come periferico nonostante la prossimità quasi immediata. È proprio questo vuoto lasciato dal polo siderurgico ad allontanare e definire due realtà di fatto prossime ed adiacenti. L’obiettivo progettuale è quindi quello di identificare il nuovo ruolo da protagonista per le ex Ogm, così come l’aveva ricoperto nel passato. È in grado di tornare a giocare un ruolo chiave per il quartiere? A costituirne motore e vita? Può l’area tornare a connettersi con le arterie urbane riallacciando i flussi o instaurando nuove dinamiche? Quali forme e quali spazi si possono immaginare mantenendo intatta la memoria industriale? Recuperando gli edifici superstiti e il sedime di altri già demoliti presenti nel perimetro, costruendone di nuovi e progettando lo spazio aperto abbiamo cercato di trovare le risposte a queste domande.
