Abstract
Architecture, as a manipulation of a phyical substance into form, is inevitably bonded to create a dialogue between its matter and light, which is to be destined to achieve a “use” by human beings. Light, therefore plays a crucial role in guiding us become conscious of our existence in the world; man and architecture as “continuation” of nature. The perception of external world, in the scope of the thesis, architecture world, for man, is achieved mostly through an active interpretative communication process of “vision” of which fundamental source is “sun”. The objective of this study is to investigate the possibilities of encoding space through appropriate natural light in order to form different “visions” in such a specific case of Museo Diocesano Complex in Milano with a holistic approach by which is constituted “sensibility” and “compatibility”towards context and a public institution: the museum extension. Tension between an “urban form” and “urban use” is evaluated through a lateral circuit-like design process in order to arrive to what extent those two forces could eventually balance each other. Methodology of the thesis is based upon a research of role of light in perceptional process of architecture together with analytic precedent studies transformed into a handbook of “encoding instruments” after which is followed by an attempt of integrity in design for appropriate lighting and urban form. A previous academic project of the author is selected for the case.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
