The population of the cities is growing and current agricultural zones are not sufficient for the population. In order to cover the food need of the urban population, the crops have been doing a long journey from rural areas. This increases the ecological footprint of the yields, it loses the freshness of the products and there is no enough production for cities. For this reason, urban agriculture is becoming more and more important as a research topic. Due to the density of today’s cities, it is challenging to create new agricultural zones on the ground level. Therefore, the main focus is on alternative solutions like rooftop greenhouse, food production on the façade or on the basement floor. Besides the location also the high-tech cultivation methods take place the traditional soil-based farming methods. GROW is an experimental project which aims to test a rooftop module placed on an existing building. This module provides benefit by producing food, electricity and collect water and sharing it with all the users of the building, both existing and extension. Besides the sustainable characteristic, it provides social volumes to increase social interaction. It doesn’t only produce but also aims to raise awareness of environmental issues and urban agriculture.

Abstract
It doesn’t only produce but also aims to raise awareness of environmental issues and urban agriculture.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
