Unifying Società Umanitaria by redefining the axis

The project deals with the restoration and transformation of a part of the Societa Umanitaria site. Specifically the Convitto building and the common landscape area around it. The existing situation of the site and the buildings can be categorized as isolated and under used for the amount of space they have. Also all the buildings inside the site are not connected to each other and are just individual fragments even though the whole site is one complex. This project aims to unify again the whole Umanitaria site and remove all the isolation within the site creating a neighbourhood community feeling inside the complex. The Umanitaria consists of a very interesting group of people. It varies from students to kindergarden kids to university students to elderly professional teachers to doctors and Policlinico personnel. Which makes it quite a unique and diverse bunch of people in one place. This is a great thing to work with because we can bring them all together in one common garden area which will be very refreshing during their break time for example.

Il progetto si occupa del restauro e della trasformazione di una parte del sito della Societa Umanitaria. In particolare l'edificio Convitto e l'area paesaggistica comune circostante. La situazione esistente del sito e degli edifici può essere classificata come isolata e sottoutilizzata per la quantità di spazio che hanno. Inoltre, tutti gli edifici all'interno del sito non sono collegati tra loro e sono solo frammenti individuali, anche se l'intero sito è un complesso. Questo progetto mira a unificare nuovamente l'intero sito Umanitaria e rimuovere tutto l'isolamento all'interno del sito creando un sentimento di comunità di quartiere all'interno del complesso. L'Umanitaria è composta da un gruppo di persone molto interessanti. Varia dagli studenti ai bambini dell'asilo, agli studenti universitari, agli insegnanti professionisti anziani, ai medici e al personale del Policlinico. Il che lo rende un gruppo unico e diversificato di persone in un unico posto. Questa è un'ottima cosa con cui lavorare perché possiamo riunirli tutti in un giardino comune che sarà molto rinfrescante durante il loro tempo di pausa, ad esempio.
