Over the years, our society has experienced an enormous digital evolution which has impacted basically on every industry and Retail is not excluded. Indeed, it has undergone some major transformations which manifest in different ways: data have become crucial, as they allow to perform a higher personalization of the offer; customer expectations have increased and retailers should integrate their presence towards the customers in a way that is as omnichannel as possible; the concept of experience has become more important and retailers need to cope with the competition coming from their online counterparts by offering a more engaging experience; the technological progression, in general, has unveiled many different possibilities where Retail might find a broader number of applications. In this scenario, IT service providers have been classified as those players actually enabling the transformation at Retail level since they offer those technologies impacting on retailers’ performances. Moreover, as the demand of technological solutions has been increasing over the years, this industry is facing enormous transformation too. This thesis work provides new scientific knowledge addressing IT service providers and retailers in Italy while generating insights that the players of this industry could benefit from. It starts with the analysis of the scientific and non-scientific literature, leading to the identification of various research gaps, and it then continues with an empirical research performed on both demand side (the retailers) and offer side (the IT service providers) of technological solutions. Ultimately, this study led to the generation of a Model in which service providers can map themselves according to the innovative technologies offered, recognizing whether there is a misalignment between their offer and the retailers’ future implementation interests.

Abstract
Ultimately, this study led to the generation of a Model in which service providers can map themselves according to the innovative technologies offered, recognizing whether there is a misalignment between their offer and the retailers’ future implementation interests.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
