Purpose, originality and value – The aim of this study is to fulfill one major gap in the existent knowledge: the lack of literature about SCF in the Agrifood industry. The purpose of this Thesis is to create a framework that illustrates the most relevant aspects to consider in the adoption of SCF in this sector. Design/methodology/approach – To conduct the research, a multiple case study approach with an exploratory nature has been adopted. Starting from the analysis of existent literature, a Preliminary Research Framework has been created, that has been validated and extended through 16 semi-structured interviews. Overall considering the single SCF solution as unit of analysis, 25 Case Studies have been analyzed. Then, a Within-Case Analysis and a Cross Case Analysis have been performed. Findings – The main outputs of this Thesis consist in an outline of the SCF solutions identified in each level of the Agrifood supply chain, the Final Framework, which is the evolution of the Preliminary Framework built taking into account the results emerged from the Case Studies Analysis and a set of frameworks specific to each SCF solution underlining all the relevant variables (drivers, barriers, costs and benefit) to consider in the adoption of SCF in the Agrifood sector and finally a matrix that maps the SCF solutions according to the different categories of Agrifood products and to the main drivers influencing their adoption. Managerial and practical implications – The results of the Thesis work represent a relevant support for managers, helping them in understanding drivers, barriers, benefits and costs of SCF in Agrifood sector. Research limitations/implications – The Thesis work mainly focused on case studies developed in Italy, while future research should be broadened exploring an international context. Moreover, this Thesis work follows a qualitative approach, while further research should investigate costs and benefits in a quantitative way. SCF in Agrifood sector is a new topic in continuous evolution, and further researches should monitor the continuous progress of SCF solutions in the analyzed industry.
In seguito sono state svolte Within-Case Analysis e Cross Case Analysis.
