In this thesis, the design process of a persuasive decreasing plastic consumption concept is described. 100YearsOfPlastic is an app for informing and motivating kids to reduce plastic consumption enjoyably. General techniques and tools of gamification and serious games are analyzed and applied to make the game playful and educational. The methodology, design, and development of the game are analyzed. The pedagogical aspect is suitable for children. The game consists of two parts: the client and the server. This research concentrates on the client part. A detailed explanation of the design defines the mechanics, interaction, and visual design applied. Also, the tools used to develop it and the process of development, clarify before the narration on how the user test has been developed and which were the relevant results. In conclusion, elements to improve are mentioned as future steps on the development and analysis of the game are presented. The project was developed as a final thesis project of two students of master’s degree in Design and Engineering from Politecnico di Milano with the held by professor Francesco Ferrise and Ph.D. student Giulia Wally Scurati. It is designed for the exhibition of the Aquarium di Genova. Professor Alberto Gallace from Bicocca Universita Degli Studi Di Milano and his team helped identify the needs of the target.
